And I got pain, pain, pain in my heart - You See a Broken Heart

Much confusion, disillusion. I've intentionally waited to write this. Dust settles. We look through our anger and pain. We see things. There is still speculation as to why the Grateful Dead soundboards were pulled from The Internet Archive. It's that very speculation responsible for most of the lashing out. For close to 40 years now we, the fans, have felt like family. Now we feel shut out. For me, it is just that simple. Please talk to us.

I don't know anything about the Grateful Dead soundboards. But, I hope whatever it is, that you get the answers to your questions soon.

I take it that you are no longer able to download Greatful Dead tunes? Don't know why, but it seems to be a shame--didn't they willingly allow folks to tape their music at concerts? I never made it to a Dead concert--I'll always wonder what I missed. Blessings.

(now if I can get your word verification to work)

I don't know too much about the soundboards either. But, took a look and saw Phil Lesh and Friends. Is that close?

Helen
Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, I think Deadheads deserve some explanation soon.

I just came across that info today-it's ridiculous, and I so want to believe that it's for some other reason than pure greed.

I haven't been here in a while-my laptop died and I had to get a new one, and I was offline so long I forgot all the great people I used to visit!

Helen, that's awful. I don't know about soundboards, but I had been talking a WHOLE lot to my 2 daughters about "deadheads" over Thanksgiving weekend, because they had seen the movie "Rent" twice and one daughter is a "Renthead" so I had to explain what a Deadhead is.

I'm very sad for you. That pic looks like similar art to "The Scream."

Shame that, just doesn't seem right - and I'm not even remotely a Deadhead.

It's not about the song files, it's about the community. Files can be obtained easily. A community is built up over time, as are the relationships. Even though the people may not have met in the "real world", that doesn't make the relationships any less important.

I hope you get an answer soon.

Viki beat me to it, Helen. Uncle John blogged Barlow's Boing-Boing comments. I blogged it after reading UJ.

Peace.

i surely do feel the way you do. But that is the way it goes sometimes. There are many mouths to feed stretching in a long line from the center of the band, all thinking they deserve a lot more because of their relationship to the band. The law is on their side and the efforts of all those people who worked on those files and treasured and preserved them be damned. The ultimate irony will be if "the band" ever needs to dip into the IA for a backup or some audience recordings for a commercial release. That is what they are asking the IA to do with those recordings after all...Hold them for the band for "official use".
