Hope this war is settled before there's nothing to defend - Iowa Soldier
There have been many songs about peace over the years. These three I love. These three have stayed with me.
Peace Train, Cat Stevens
Give Peace a Chance, John Lennon & Paul McCartney
(What's so funny 'bout) Peace, Love and Understanding,
Elvis Costello

Along with this one.
War, Edwin Starr
"War has shattered many young men's dreams
Made them disabled bitter and mean
Life is too precious to be fighting wars each day
War can't give life it can only take it away"
When will it end?
Made them disabled bitter and mean
Life is too precious to be fighting wars each day
War can't give life it can only take it away"
When will it end?

It is amazing how advocates of peace are commonly labelled as malcontents, traitors or worse.
Obviously, it is far easier to destroy and wage war, than put the effort in to establish peace on earth. Have faith, in the end, there will be peace one way or another.
Thanks for coming by. You comments are very true. Thanks for the input.
keb mo recently (last year maybe?) came out with a great cd of re-done peace songs, called "peace: back by popular demand" you should check it out, it's nice to hear a new spin on some of those old classics.
WHen WILL it end? Classic songs- good post-
PEACE
as long as there are humans roaming the planet, war will continue
You didn't just quote a Trichromes song? Ok so Hunter got that from an old letter from a soldier, but still. Thought the only copies of that record that people had were the ones passed out to friends.
I came across your other blog and I thought you changed your template.
How about "Eve of Destruction?" Thanks for this post. Reading Cheney's comments today about those who oppose his and Georgie Boy's little war... I felt like getting sick.
I like your 'Box of Rain' so I'm blogrolling it. I hope you don't mind.
Find The Cost Of Freedom - Neil Young
[Stephen Stills]
Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground,
Mother Earth will swallow you,
Lay your body down.
Pretty powerful four lines, if you ask me.
One I'd like to add to the list...
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On.
"Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on"
there are so many makes you wonder WHY there isn t peace peace
Mark Twain in an 1899 letter to William T. Stead said:
"Peace by persuasion has a pleasant sound, but I think we should not be able to work it. We should have to tame the human race first, and history seems to show that that cannot be done."
or as "amp" suggested: "as long as there are humans roaming the planet, war will continue"
Sad? Perhaps not. If it was not for the natural agressive nature of man (and, of course, the even more aggresive woman -LOL) we may well have a very limp, backwards, unproductive society.
classic! luv those songs.. esp the Lennon/McCartney one. Great quote too.. indeed makes one ponder when will it end? i guess not in our generation tho..
btw.. voted for you at BOTB 8)
