Those are interesting statistics, but YIKES what is the point they are trying to make at that website? That people who are evil die young? I wonder how they would explain Jesus' execution by the state at age 33?

Cool post, you're right, the music has never stopped.

Whomever compiled that list is demented; but that notwithstanding these musical geniuses are still with us.

Hey, back again! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, I loved your story!

This site is most definitely trying to make the point that rock musicians die young because they're not "in" with Jesus. If you go to their main page http://www.av1611.org/ you see that they are very disapproving of Christian musicians as well. And most everything else.

These are the kinds of Christians that twist the Bible and try to make it say things they think it should, rather than what it actually does. I wish these folks would spend more time focused on their own walk with God, and less time focused on everyone else's, you can't scare anyone into the Kingdom, and you can't get anyone there by lying to them.

I know this isn't what you saw in the list at all, it's a "me" problem. I have some very domineering and judgmental Christians in my family, and I'm trying to find my own way to walk this path without being like them. I think I spend a lot of my time trying to convince other people we're not ALL like that, and that Jesus wasn't, either! So, sorry for dragging this all out! :-)

I totally agree, this is a remarkable list, and I do agree that these folks are dying way too young. It would be interesting to contrast this list with a statistical table of other people who travel for a living, because many of them seemed to be killed just getting to "work" each day.

I always love to look at statistics, I find them fascinating. :-)

Thanks Jen! I changed the link to another site that lists the same data without the negative tone.

I don't think about the musicians that have died very much but it all comes back everytime I hear the song "Rock & Roll Heaven". That line "If you believe in forever,
Then our gig's just a one-night stand" gets to me.

That site is so cool! I love how they've broken it down by cause of death, including "poor maintenance." Hee hee! I can tell where my evening's going.

Thanks for putting up with my quirks, Helen :-)

Imagine creating the same list for your friends and relatives - indicate the type of death for those who have passed away. Who will be next? um ... this is probably not a good idea.

Mozart lived a little over 30 years, and his musical genius is still appreciated by many. Jesus Christ lived 33 years as man, and no one has influenced more humans than He, and more songs have been written about Jesus Christ than any other person.

I too, have wondered about all of the musicians/singer/songwriters that have checked out early. But I balance that list of the early departures with the list of those that have lived long lives.

Having said that I must say this. THERE SHOULD BE A TIME WHEN ALL TALENTED PEOPLE REALIZE THEIR TALENT HAS PEAKED SO THAT THEY KNOW WHEN TO BE STILL.
WHO WANTS TO WITNESS A DOWNHILL SLIDE OF A ONCE GREAT SINGER/SONGWRITER OR MUSICIAN?

A RECENT EXAMPLE…..JOAN BAEZ.....SHOWING UP AT CRAWFORD TEXAS TO HARASS THE PRESIDENT?? The once fond memories I had of her protest songs….disappeared, and now I see her as a bitter old bitch….sour grapes.

And now someone had to ruin my whole day, reminding me that Barry Manilow is still around. I hope to escape any of his concerts, and hope to escape his latest on the radio.

Maybe we should compile a list of musicians/singer/songwriters that are still around.

It would be a long list. And we could scour through the list and note the ones we wish had retired quietly. Here is a short list of candidates I think have outlasted their karma, mick jagger, barry manilow, barbara streisand and cher.

But also from that long list, we could compile a list of those we want to rock on, forever.

bbking, chuck berry and merle haggard...etc. You all have your own lists.

One thing to ponder....
Would you really want to see a 65 year old Jim Morrison?
