Judge said "In fact it's gonna cost you your life" - Dupree's Diamond Blues

They call it humane.
How would anyone know?
They call it justice.
Because killing is wrong.
Your life, we say, has no value.
You've killed, so we kill. Revenge.
It's supposed to deter but fails.
It's supposed to teach but what?
Teach your children well.

Helen - You want to talk about synchronicity? I just saw your comment BEFORE reading this post. My reply to you and Paula was "And that's a true story folks". That line is spoken by one of the band members at the end of DuPree's Diamond Blues on one of my Dick's Picks. Then I bopped oover here and saw the DDB quote.

Weird, huh???

I was at San Quentin for Tookie's execution protest, and I just posted some video of it here.

It was a very sad spectacle. As against the death penalty as I am, I don't think I've got it in me to attend another one of these.

Capital punishment has no place in a society where life is valued... I would like ours to be such a society.

There is so much injustice...

The same people that create such an uproar against abortion also pull the plug on programs that support mothers and children...

The same people also wage cruel wars in the name of freedom...

And try children in the same courts as adults, and emprison them in the same prison...

As Ghandi said, "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

I will survive.

It's supposed to teach that there is such thing as justice, and that murderers don't get away with it.

Execution is preventative. That person will never kill again. It works perfectly as a deterant. If Samson had been executed after he broke out of jail the first time three innocent people would still be alive. There is a place for capital punishment.
