Somedays I look in the mirror without a second thought. Other times it stops me. I'm not always sure who's looking back. I look older or tired, angry or bitter, at peace, content today. I think it's how I feel being reflected back wondering if others will see me this way. I look too much. I think too much. Or see too little? I look longer and harder until I know who I see. See me.

Helen, dear lucid fellow citizen with good eyes and clear-thinking brain... I think having a hybrid identity and plural image of the self is a great thing. Rather a movable feast than beast... I like your reflection on that image and your blog. Was nice to visit you.

Damn mirror!
My gosh when I read that it sounds so fast, so confusing, and rings so f*'ing true! What you just wrote are the same thoughts I have when I look in the mirror. I can only imagine what a 90 year old thinks when they look in the mirror, feeling like that 27 year old they once were.
You always have the perfect words & pictures to go with it.
I dunno about you, Helen, but I just seem to be getting older and older. But as my Mother keeps telling me: it beats the alternative.
mirrors can be scary
Oh man, Girl: Did you read my mind this evening. Were you shadowing me? I rarely go to the mall, but had to earlier this evening.
Their lights are harsh, but still I can't excuse that as a reason. I was already exhausted when I went. I emerged from the restroom there, still horrified from my visage when I washed my hands. That's the literal part.
The abstract part: yes, oh yes, I feel it, but I'd rather be here and let those lines show than not. Still remembering younger times and less "tracks of my tears" on my face, is a bit harsh in the internal mirror of mine as well as the external one. great post
